Looking back - 2010 summarised

It seems, unbeknown to me, that I would take an involuntary break from riding bikes in 2010. Only in hindsight do I realise what a trough it was in comparison to the peak in 2009. 2009 brought some 'first time' interstate Enduro races and a state series title ( sweet) so I didn't exactly expect to back this up in 2010 but its fair to say riding my bike(s) took a backseat...whilst the car was in motion and it was supposed to be driving.

But, in looking on the events attended and bailed last year, there was still great and new experiences so not a total write off ( except in performance and sanity measures).  2010 brought me:

  • Involvement in organising 4X at the National Champs in January.
  • Riding the 160km JDRF charity Roadie event with Jeff  (January).
  • Riding the 160km Tour Down under event (January) Never again!  Muppetville.
  • Participating in Wildside in Tasmania (Awesome) in February.
  • Bailing from the Otway 100kmer due to work, lack of fitness and general shitness (February).
  • Hitting the trails of Rotorua for the first time in a long time with some old Brissy mates, awesome (March).
  • Bailing from the Alice Enduro race (April)
  • Bailing from the Eagle 6hr (April).
  • Bailing, half way through, the Clare 6hr (May).
  • Missing the Melrose Fat Tyre Festival, again (June).
  • Going to the Tour Up Over 100kmer in Southern Flinders, doing 25kms and then drinkin beer(July).
  • Attending a boozy weekend away 'riding' with the Fatboys Roadie club (August).
  • Attending the always great BBB gathering (number 9) in August.
  • Participating in the Foxy 1000, bailing after 50kms to drink beer (October).
  • Heading back to Rotorua for the SingleSpeed World Championships with the Brissy mates, even though I don't ride SS, having a ball, getting roped in to helping Ireland bid for and win the next event in 2011 (October). www.sswc2011.ie
  • Riding the Wombat 100kmer in Vic with the riding crew and some hailstones (November).
  • Riding a roadie race with some Fatboys (December).

Writing this list has made me realise I probably did as much, if not more 'racing' (Event participation) than in 2009 but...old good fashioned Riding -  the after work, on the weekends stuff etc was near non-existent over the course of the year and that's where the real buzz and maintenance of sanity comes from for me..something to right in 2011.
